Sunday School Mission Projects Final Report for 2011 Watts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
To: Rev. White, Sunday School Officers, Teachers and Class Members
From: Devonne Mitchener, Mission Project Coordinator
The Sunday School experienced a fruitful year in serving our fellowman during 2011. Below is a summary of the mission initiatives in which each class participated.
In the Beginning(Preschool): The children made bookmarks for our Senior members. They learned the importance of respecting their elders and sharing.
Gods’ Lamb(K-1): The class collected new and gently used books, then donated them to the UNC children’s hospital. The project helped the students learn that giving is more important than receiving. Also, they have begun to realize that not all children are healthy and that these children receive treatment in medical facilities.
Kingdom Kids(Grades 2-3): The class adopted a soldier in Afghanistan. They wrote him and sent a care package. They plan to continue blessing him until he returns home to his family. The students were enriched by learning about the importance of serving one’s country.
Lion of Judah(Grades 4-5): Students and teachers went to the Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center. They distributed door hangers which they created to all of the residents. The teachers and students were blessed by knowing they encouraged and showed love to the residents by interacting with them.
Middle School(Grades 6-8): The teachers and students visited James Rest Home. They prayed and sang with the residents, then gave them framed scriptures which they had made. They were especially pleased that they fellowshipped with residents who rarely have visitors.
High School(Grades 9-12): The students donated food to the NC Food Bank and also volunteered there. In addition, the students participated in Operation Christmas Child by donating toys and toiletries.
Young Adult Class: The members supported the St. Jude Ranch for abused, abandoned and neglected children. They collected 1120 greeting cards(front portion) which are recycled for resale. The profits are used to fund services for the children and their families. The class thanks the Watts family for their card contributions.
Men’s Class: The men helped construct homes for Habitat for Humanity. They provided drinks and snacks for the workers also.
Women’s Class: The women held 2 showers to collect baby items which were donated to Birth Choice of Raleigh. This organization supports women who are undecided about parenting their unborn child. The members also donated funds to purchase several baby car seats.
Adult Class: Five of the class members are volunteering with the Cancer Centers of NC. The entire class donated funds to support the Hosanna Most High Foundation, a church in Kenya. Bibles and other office supplies were sent. Also, 40 hymnals were donated to a NC church which did not have the funds to purchase them.
